Product introduction
 High-Pressure Socket Weld Half-Couplings - Technical Specification

 1. Product Definition

A socket weld half-coupling is a semi-circular pipe fitting designed to:

- Create branch connections on existing pressurized pipelines (up to Class 6000)

- Provide a socket weld outlet while requiring only 180° pipe access

- Eliminate full pipe disassembly for maintenance/modifications

 2. Critical Design Features

- Split-Socket Design: Allows installation without pipe removal

- Reinforced Weld Pad: 25% thicker than standard couplings

- Alignment Notches: Ensure precise positioning during welding

- Smooth Bore Transition: Minimizes turbulence (Ra ≤ 32 µin)

 3. Installation Procedure

1. Surface Preparation:

   - Clean pipe surface to SA 2.5 standard

   - Align coupling using alignment pins

2. Tack Welding:

   - 4 equidistant tack welds (min. 6mm length)

3. Final Welding:

   - GTAW root pass (Argon purge)

   - SMAW fill/cap passes (E7018)

4. Post-Weld:

   - PWHT for alloys (per ASME Sec VIII)

   - Liquid penetrant inspection

4. Performance Data

- Burst Pressure: 4× rated working pressure

- Cyclic Fatigue: 50,000 cycles at 1,500 psi (per ASTM E606)

- Temperature Range:

  - Carbon steel: -29°C to 425°C

  - Stainless: -196°C to 815°C

 5. Industry Applications

- Power Generation: Steam line instrumentation taps

- Oil & Gas: Pipeline hot-tap connections

- Chemical Plants: Reactor feed line modifications

- Shipbuilding: Hydraulic system retrofits

 6. Standards Compliance

- ASME B16.11: Socket weld dimensions

- ASTM A961: Material requirements

- PED 2014/68/EU: CE marking for pressure equipment

- NACE MR0175: Sulfide stress cracking resistance

 7. Advantages vs Alternatives

✓ 50% faster installation than full-wrap couplings

✓ No system downtime for installation

✓ Stronger than threaded alternatives at high pressure

✓ Smoother flow than saddle-type connections

Note: For pipes >3" NPS, recommend integrally reinforced designs with contoured weldpads.

 8. Quality Assurance

- 100% UT of forging blanks

- Hydrostatic test at 1.5× rated pressure

- PMI verification for alloy content

- Dye penetrant examination of all welds
