Product introduction
High-Pressure Socket Weld Crosses – Technical Specification
1. Product Definition
A high-pressure socket weld cross is a forged 4-way pipe fitting designed for creating simultaneous 90° branch connections in critical high-P/T systems (Class 3000-6000). These fittings distribute flow to three perpendicular directions while maintaining socket weld integrity at all connections.
2. Technical Parameters
Materials:
- Carbon Steel: ASTM A105N (Normalized) for non-corrosive services
- Stainless Steel: ASTM A182 F316L/304L for chemical compatibility
- Alloy Steel: ASTM A182 F91 for creep resistance (≤593°C)
- Nickel Alloys: UNS N06625 for sour gas (H₂S >50ppm)
Pressure Ratings:
- Class 3000: 5,600psi @ 100°F (38°C)
- Class 6000: 15,000psi hydrostatic test pressure
- Derating Curve: Complies with ASME B31.3 Chapter II
3. Manufacturing Compliance
- Forging Process: Closed-die forging ≥2,200°F (ASTM A961)
- Dimensional Standard: ASME B16.11 Table 8
- NACE MR0175: Sulfide stress cracking resistant versions available
- Surface Finish: 32Ra µin max. for hygienic applications
4. Installation Criticals
Welding Procedure:
1. Gap Control: 1/16" (1.6mm) minimum at all sockets
2. Preheat: 200-250°C for C-Mo alloys
3. Welding Sequence:
- First weld: Opposite legs (creates balanced stress)
- Second weld: Remaining two legs
4. PWHT: Mandatory for P-No. 3+ materials per ASME Sec VIII Div 1
Inspection Protocol:
- 100% PT on all socket welds
- RT required for wall thickness >19mm (Class 6000)
- Hardness testing at HAZ (max 225 HB)
5. Performance Advantages
✔ Flow Efficiency: Streamlined internal contours (5% lower ΔP vs. threaded crosses)
✔ Space Savings: 40% more compact than flanged assemblies
✔ Reliability: Zero gasket failure points compared to flanged designs
✔ Maintenance: Allows individual leg isolation without full system shutdown
6. Industry Applications
- Oil & Gas: HPU manifold blocks, X-mas tree piping
- Power Plants: Steam injection distribution
- Chemical Processing: Multi-stream reactor feeds
- Shipbuilding: Hydraulic control systems
7. Quality Assurance
- Material Certs: 3.1 Mill Test Reports per EN 10204
- NDE: Ultrasonic testing of forging blanks
- Dimensional: 3D laser scanning for port alignment (±0.5° tolerance)
- Pressure Testing: 1.5x MAWP for 30 minutes
Selection Guidelines
1. For cyclic services, specify radius-cornered designs per MSS SP-97
2. In cryogenic applications, verify Charpy impact values at -196°C
3. Offshore projects require supplementary NORSOK M-650 testing
